The Storage Room
This Mini-Cho-chin has been kept in a dark storage room for thirty years. Because it was shielded from light, the pigment has not faded. It remains a vibrant “Shocking Pink”—a synthetic hue designed to mimic the gas-discharge lamps of a nightlife district. The color remains as it was in 1995.
The Fragment
The paper surface depicts a cluster of multi-tenant buildings. The windows are rendered as glowing yellow squares against a dark background. It is the Susukino intersection.
The Physical Shift
Since the mid-1990s, the travel has shifted to a series of scheduled business tasks. The environment remains: the smell of grilled mutton on a suit, and the “Red Star” on the Clock Tower.
My hair has turned white. The pigment on the lantern has not changed.
The Red Star and the Neon
The “Red Star” atop the Clock Tower—the symbol of the Hokkaido Development Commission—reigns in stillness. The pink of the Susukino neon flickers.
The Residue
Thirty years in the dark. The color persists.
